The elephant is a truly amazing creature. It is an animal that has been respected, revered, even worshipped, in many of the world's cultures for thousands of years. Elephants are the epitome of sustainability, having survived for 50 million years and having evolved through the forms of more than 300 species to reach us today as our largest land mammal. Although they are known mostly for their size and shape, elephants possess a variety of amazing abilities. Elephants are among the most intelligent creatures in the world. With the largest brain of any land mammal and a brain-to-body mass ratio second only to humans, they also have among the highest 'intelligence index' of any animal. They also have the largest poo...I thought Hannah's cheese fondue diapers were bad. I venture to say this would be worse (see pic). Thank goodness her elephant is stuffed.
The Clown and Protector: Elli the Boxer
Active, playful, loyal, family oriented, are just a few of the characteristics of the boxer. A breed full of love for people and a zest for life, the boxer is an ideal family dog. The boxer is unlike any other breed. Often described as the “clown,” of the dog community, boxers are a class all their own. Those who own boxers can attest to their unique characteristics. With their lean muscular builds, smooth coats, and square stance, the boxer is truly an impressive looking animal. Being a working class breed, the boxer demonstrates an instinctive willinness to please, while at the same time showing an alertness, caution and courage in the face of the unknown. Finally, on the rather delicate subject of flatulence--the boxers digestion is sometimes less than perfect. Even when fed a high quality food, some may have rather frequent and, well-noxious episodes of passing gas. (Sometimes it is hard to tell if it was Elli or Hannah...how can something so little smell so bad?!?)
The Constant Companion: Seahorse the Seahorse
Seahorses are monogamous within a breeding season, and each seahorse only mates with one other seahorse. Reproduction in seahorses is their most intriguing quality. The male, not the female, plays the primary role in carrying the developing babies and then later caring for the young. Male seahorses are nature’s real-life Mr. Moms--they take fathering to a whole new level. This particular breed of seahorse is rare in that it plays soothing lullabies while its belly lights up.
